The media are ruining English

Is the media really ruining the English language or is it making English language easier to use and to pronounce? Looking at any language there are always many people who cry rivers seeing a simple grammar error that does not even change the sentence its meaning. There are also people who write and do not care for any grammar error they construct and the possible consequences to the sentence its meaning. Both groups should try to meet in the middle, grammar is important and we should not discard it easily nor should we over exaggerate as the Dutch do, changing writing behaviour almost every year. I think it is important to check whether the used construction makes sense or doesn't.
